Learn about the history of Salem Lutheran Church
Prior to Salem being created, the congregation members that would first start our church began worshipping at another already established Lutheran Church which was roughly six miles away from their homes every Sunday. Overtime, a handful of Swedish immigrants started the Swedish Evaneglical Lutheran Church in 1893 after raising together $500 to build a chapel.
Over the ensuing years of the Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Church's history as the congregations' ethnicities expanded with its membership, the congregation chose to change the name of our church to Salem Lutheran Church of Oxford (for Oxford Township) since there was already another Salem Lutheran Church in Dalbo, Minnesota.
The church begain in the Swedish-American Lutheran churches and is now an LCMC (Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ) church as of 2010. We, at Salem, are an open and friendly church who invite all to come and worship with us and to learn more about the Holy Trinity and the Scriptures.
We happily remain today a small and friendly country church that anxiously awaits your arrival!
